The GAC has compiled a list of potential Data Science and STEM scholarships and fellowships, particularly those targeting historically minoritized groups in these fields.While this page is intended as a helpful resource, it is not an authoritative source of information on the opportunities, and may include errors or information that is out-of-date. See the official websites for each opportunity for full details. Furthermore, this is a non-exhaustive list. NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) Graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutionsOctober Award includes "Annual stipend of $34,000" and "Cost-of-education allowance of $12,000 to the institution." *Harvard currently does not sponsor NSF awards for master's students.
Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans "The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans program honors the contributions of immigrants and children of immigrants to the United States. Each year, we invest in the graduate education of 30 New Americans—immigrants and children of immigrants—who are poised to make significant contributions to US society, culture or their academic field. Each Fellow receives up to $90,000 in financial support over two years, and they join a lifelong community of New American Fellows." Google Conference and Travel Scholarships "Scholarships are available in North America for all traditionally underrepresented groups in technology and business (including, but not limited to: African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American, persons with disabilities, women and veterans)." Conference dependent; throughout the fall Depending on conference, funding for registration, travel, and other fees
Sandia's Critical Skills Recruiting Master’s Fellowship Program "Sandia's Critical Skills Recruiting Master's Fellowship Program (MFP) is a special, entry-level hiring program, which provides new or recent technical bachelor's degree candidates the opportunity to pursue a fully funded Masters of Science degree." October 10, 2022 Tuition and associated costs; in addition, winners remain on-roll as a Sandia employee and receive a competitive annual salary. Ability to obtain a DOE security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. Underutilized Minority status. New or recent Bachelor's of Science degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0. Qualify to attend Sandia approved graduate schools.
AAUW International Fellowships "International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are supported." Novemeber 15, 2022$18,000-$30,000 in funding
GEM Fellowship GEM is a network of leading corporations, government laboratories, top universities, and top research institutions that enables qualified students from underrepresented communities to pursue graduate education in applied science and engineering. November 15, 2022$4,000 living stipend per full-time semester up to 4 semesters. Up to two paid summer internships with a GEM Employer Member. Full tuition and fees provided by GEM University Member (*Harvard currently does not sponsor.)
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at time of application.

Candidates are targeted for participation who are members of the following under-represented groups in science and engineering as defined by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics: American Indian/Native, African American/Black, Hispanic American/Latino
Generation Google Scholarship Can be used for bachelor's, master's, or PhD. Other eligibility criteria include demonstrated financial need and that the applicant "Exemplify leadership and demonstrate passion for improving representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology." TBD One time $10,000 Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program at an accredited university or college in the United States or Canada for the 2021-2022 academic year. Be studying computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field. Demonstrate a strong academic record. Demonstrate financial need. Exemplify leadership and demonstrate passion for improving representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology.
Google Lime Scholarship "Google's education and scholarship programs aim to inspire and help students become future leaders in computing and technology by breaking down the barriers that prevent them from entering these fields. As part of our commitment, we’ve partnered with Lime Connect, a nonprofit organization that supports students with disabilities while they pursue education and promising careers, to help university students with disabilities work toward their academic goals in the field of computer science." TBD $10,000 for one yearEligibility requirements include: "Have, or consider themselves to have, a visible or invisible disability (see Lime Connect’s approach to disability)"
Adobe Research Women-in-Technology Scholarship "The Adobe Research Women-in-Technology Scholarship recognizes outstanding female undergraduate and master’s students studying artificial intelligence/machine learning, data science, computer science or mobile/web development at North American universities (including Canada and Mexico)." TBD $10,000 one-time reward. A free year subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud. Opportunity to interview for Adobe internship. Must identify as female. Intend to be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or masters student at a university for the 2021-2022 academic year. Graduating students are not eligible. Be majoring in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field. Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities. Maintain a strong academic record. Not have a relative working for Adobe.
Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship "Through its program of fellowships, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students." December 15,2022 Positive factors for selection include, "Membership in one or more of the following groups whose underrepresentation in the American professoriate has been severe and longstanding: Alaska Natives (Aleut, Eskimo, or other Indigenous People of Alaska), Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native American Indians, Native Pacific Islanders (Hawaiian/Polynesian/Micronesian), Puerto Ricans"
Department of Energy: Computational Science Graduate Fellowship Undergraduate seniors moving into graduate school, first year Master's students, or Master's students in second year planning ot pursue a PhD. Stipend $36,000 yearly up to 4 years. Deadline typically in winter/spring. January 12, 2022 $36,000 yearly up to 4 years. Master's student splanning to pursue a PhD.
Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Scholarships "SWE Scholarships support those who identify as a female/woman and are pursuing an ABET-accredited bachelor or graduate student program in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science globally. In 2020, SWE disbursed nearly 260 new and renewed scholarships valued at more than $1,000,000!" Varies Ranges from $1,000-$16,000 Also offers "Reentry/Non-Traditional Scholarships"
ACM SIGHPC Computational & Data Science Fellowship Either currently enrolled in graduate program or accepted to begin one no later than October 15. Master's or PhD in computational or data science. Completed less than half of planned program, with preference for students earlier in studies. Woman and/or member of underrepresented racial/ethnic group. Stipend: $15,000 anually up to 2 years. April 30, 2022 Annual $15,000 stipend up to 2 years Eligibility reqs include: "A woman and/or a member of a racial/ethnic group that is currently underrepresented in the computing field in the country where the student will earn the degree" Requires research faculty nomination. Only one nomination per department.
REDW Scholarship "The REDW Scholarship is for undergraduate and graduate student who are enrolled members of a federally recognized American Indian Tribe or Alaska Native group or a state-recognized Tribe in the U.S. OR provide documentation of ancestry to possession of 1/4 degree Indian blood of a state or federally recognized Tribe in Arizona or New Mexico. REDW encourages Native Americans to pursue a career in accounting and finance, increase the pool of top talent from which to recruit for the Firm’s Nation Tribal Services team and identify Native American students interested in participating in the Firm’s Internship Program." AIGC Science Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund "The specific purpose of the Science Post Graduate Scholarship Fund (SPGSF) program is to provide financial assistance to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate, graduate and professional degree candidates to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) research in and opportunities for careers with Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) and BIE funded organizations on and off reservation and tribal governments." June 1, 2023 Up to $30,000 "Science Post Graduate Scholarship Fund (SPGSF) provides funding and awards specifically for post-secondary and post-graduate level fellowships/scholarships to enrolled members of a federally recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group OR provide documentation of ancestry to possession of one-fourth degree Indian blood of a federally recognized tribe pursuing graduate or professional level education."
